My new husband and myself were giddily busy planning our Las Vegas wedding (and at our age, giddy is not an easy thing to achieve!) We came to the discussion on just where we were planning to stay for that week and we were both unanimous in our decision.

Something attracted us both to the Luxor the many times we had been to Vegas on previous occasions. The mystique surrounding it, the odd shape (pyramid) the bright light that shines from the very pinnacle of the hotel straight up into the night sky, disappearing somewhere around Mars and Venus. Whatever it was, we were hooked and convinced that that is where we should stay.

We even splurged and booked one of the corner jacuzzi suites. FANTASTIC view of the strip from our luxurious jacuzzi tub, and on those cold February nights we enjoyed the view of the planes landing at McCarren Field, and all the business of the strip below.

And this ends the glowing review, on to the real review.

Yes the view was amazing, yes the hotel was incredible with its decor and near-authenticates replicating Egypt of old, but it stops short there. The room itself was old and worn. The bathroom was upgraded, but I don't think that the carpeting had been replaced since King Tut himself walked the earth. The bed was not very comfortable. The paint on the interior of the room was in sad need of refreshing. As soon as we stepped out of the room it was like a different place, marble floors gleaming, lighted monoliths revealing architectural detail that was meticulously copied from originals. The lobby, and front desk/concierge area are a site to behold, very modern, yet very ancient. A study in contrast. Too bad that the same thought and detail could not go into the rooms themselves.

Oh yes, and not to mention while staying there I picked up a very nasty bug and spent the later half of my honeymoon in that very uncomfortable bed.

I don't think that we will ever book there again, but it is definitely worth a visit to see the lobby, eat at the buffet and marvel at the decor.
