How can it not influence your vote?

Of course it should, but not in such a way that you will only vote for a member of your own faith. If that happened we would only have leaders of the prevailing majority religion at the time. Then there would be no separation of church and state.

The basis of your faith is the basis on which you judge others actions, thoughts and deeds. You're not going to vote for someone whose principals are radically different than yours.

You vote according to your principles which are guided by your faith. Your faith enforces your moral compass which you initially learn, from your faith.

You can not put your faith aside when you make a decision to vote. You have to consider whether the person you are voting for is a person of moral character and integrity. You have to have something to base this decision on and what better measure than whether or not that person measures up to your standards.

No matter what faith you are they all basically have their own version of the Ten Commandments. Your faith revolves around these principles. It all comes down to how much you think the candidate adheres to these principles.
