The Blenheim is a cocktail that was created by the Savoy Hotel's head barman Joe Gilmore to celebrate Winston Churchill's ninetieth birthday. Winston Churchill, former British PM & statesman, was born at Blenheim Palace in 1874 which was where the name came from The Blenheim is also sometimes known as the 4 score and 10, because it was to celebrate his ninetieth birthday.
To make the Blenheim you need:
3 parts Brandy
2 parts Yellow Chartreuse
1 part Lillet
1 part Orange Juice
1 part Dubonnet
Shake all of the ingredients together, with cracked ice, in a cocktail shaker, then strain into a Martini glass and serve.
There doesn't appear to be any references as to whether or not Churchill enjoyed the cocktail as he generally liked Martinis, the gin based ones NOT vodka.
Joe Gilmore was the longest serving head barman at the Savoy and has made cocktails for several members of the British Royal family, American Presidents Truman & Nixon and a number of famous actors and writers.
