Frankly, I see little benefit if any to fraternities on the college campus. This is true for many reasons.
For and foremost is the safety of members. Young, impressionable students do foolish, irresponsible things in order to "impress" potential fraternities and sororities. This results in danger and regardless disregard for common rules and regulations.
The examples of student death and injuries abound in our country that result from irresponsible fraternity behavior.
There is also the issue of alcohol. Fraternities become a haven for illegal activity with no way to enforce the law. Older members provide the alcohol and the opportunity for younger drinkers.
Fraternities offer a false sense of friendship. No friend would lower themselves to what it takes to be a member of a Greek organization. True friends care about the person not the status point
