Addictions touching a teen is a misnomer...addictions attempt to flat out, smack down any teen they contact. They are to be considered living, breathing attacks that start out small and insignificant and steadily grow into living, breathing attempts to steal, kill and destroy everyone in or near and including the teen victim.
When dealing with this invasive enemy, one must view the victim and the addiction as two separate entities, almost like a parasite and host. Radical treatment must be combined with compassion and sensitivity when helping to safely rid the teen (host) of the addiction (parasite).
This is not an easy task, especially when the teen doesn't acknowledge the possibility of the presence of this vicious attempt on their life. It seems they are blinded or fooled into thinking the symptoms are just normal things all teens experience. Often, parents are even deceived-they know something is wrong, yet can't put their finger on exactly what is happening. It often takes an expert or at least someone detached from the family to clearly evaluate the situation.
Parents- especially tuned-in moms- rely on your intuition, that's why you have it. Don't be fooled into accepting negative changes in your child's life as normal. Expect more. Actively seek out and destroy any thought, feeling, or action that could potentially threaten your family's peace. This aggressive stance, when done in love for your children will help to detect and destroy any evil attempt by a parasitic addiction on your host teen's life.
