It should be obvious to everyone by now that sex education in the schools has failed miserably. Teen pregnancies escalate as do STD's. Young people are having sex at earlier ages and don't even know that oral sex is still sex. They are more confused than they have ever been and are engaging in behaviors that are putting them at tremendous risk.
The problem began when parents abdicated their responsibility to teach their children about sexuality and bought into a theory that schools were better equipped than they to educate children about sex. Every family has their own unique value system. How can the school complement the family's beliefs when they are dealing with such a diverse group of family dynamics? Schools should teach anatomy and health. Sex education is the responsibility of the family. We are reaping the whirlwind of our own careless approach to parenting and our willingness to give more and more power over our kids to educators who cannot possibly have a significant investment in their wellbeing.
Wake up parents and teach your sons and daughters to respect you, your values and themselves.
