Poetry: The life we leave behind

The Wooden Box

Today I packed away a part of my soul
As the tears once more begin to unfold
Of yesterday's memories, stolen form
Surrounds me like a magnetic storm
Images of a life that could not be
Forced me once again, to set you free
With bits and pieces my soul
Now slowly dying out out of control
For nothing is left to hold on to
I try to stand tall and just get through
Starring at your picture beside our bed
Or the pillow where you laid your head
The slighted mention of your name
Sends chills through me still the same
Precious treasures of our time together
Now hidden away and stored forever
I remember how you whispered to my heart
Then kissed my soul before you had to depart
Once again I had to pack away
In a wooden box, my spirit today
