How to tell if you are successful in life

THOUGHTS, EXPRESSIONS & IDEAS - My Own Success
also known as the ramblings of a middle aged person

I've always had so much to say, but rarely the opportunity to do so, because never have I been in a place, position or venue appropriate to what I always believed should be voiced aloud. The strangest thing is that I've been almost eveywhere; I have dined in 5 star restaurants, and I have served meals at several of the proverbial "greasy spoons". I once handled the lounge of a 4 star establishment where the least costly item was sold for more than the average family could pay for

a week of dining out every night. I served & entertained with silly stories, and was even invited for Christmas dinner with one family. I never received less than a 30% tip, and one Christmas tip was a $1,000.00 dollar bill; never before or since have I seen another bill of that denomination, and that tip was received in 1986.

I have had a great life so far, with numerous travels and experiences, and I have met some amazing people. I also had numerous medical problems, & faced death so many times that we are practically pen pals - but even the most minimal joy-filled occasions have always outweighed the bad by 10 to 1, because my choice is to focus on life, not misery. Many times when giving up would have been very easy, my spirit and inner mind told me to fight, hang on, and battle my way back, and my belief is that it is due to the theory that I still have something to offer, and even if only by these written words, I can hopefully have the chance to inspire even just one person. If so, my efforts will be more than worth it, because every single individual can inspire one more.

I recall an excerpt from my most favored author, who included a paraphrased portion from the writings of the apostles, specifically Bartholomew. The gist is this; every act of kindness, no matter how seemingly small and ordinary, can have the same ripple effect that throwing a pebble into a pond can produce. Opening or holding open a door on a building or to an elevator for a stranger, out of simple courtesy, without expecting anything in return; or, while seated in a doctor's waiting room, give over your seat to an elderly person, or a pregnant woman, or just to someone clearly injured. Help someone put on their coat, or scrape the ice from their windshield, or carry someone's grocery bags to their car. When someone does the same things for you, make sure you thank them sincerely. None of these things cost you
