Reasons why you should ride a bike

There are so many reasons why you should ride a bike that it is impossible to list them all, but all you really need is one. If you talk to cyclists, each one has a reason that they ride, and it is slightly different for them all. I once rode with a guy who started riding because his wife got the car in the divorce. He was overweight when he started, by the time I met him he was racing at a semi-pro level. It is possible that his wife saved his life by taking the car.

So while there are an infinite number of reasons why you should ride, here are my top ten.

#10 You can't talk to cars at stoplights
If you spend enough time in your car and watching TV you will come to the realization that everyone in the world is pretty much a bad person. (You probably phrase it differently) when you stop at a stoplight there is that young punk blaring his music, and the guy a little too close to your bumper and that bike who just passed everyone on the right, all of whom annoy you. On the other hand, when you are at an intersection on you bike, and you see another cyclist, it is rare that you don't at least say hi. Oddly enough in a car you come out of an intersection with road rage, on a bike you tend to think people are pretty cool.

#9 People will hate you less
Studys have shown that regular exercise will calm you and make you less aggressive and mean in your other daily interactions. When you ride your bike regularly you will be less likely to fight with your family and friends. ( This is of course provided you aren't shirking responsibilities to go out an ride)

#8 These Colors don't run
The politics of oil usage are at the forefront of international relations. (nevermind that they will all be moot when the oil runs out) Decreased demand for oil takes the strain off international relations for almost everyone, so if you ride you bike instead of driving, you are actually helping your country. By the way, this doesn't really matter what party line you follow. For example in the states, if you are Republican: decreasing oil demand means that the Democrats can no longer say that whatever you are doing is "all about the oil". If you are a Democrat you no longer have to worry about being "screwed by big oil'" and you are finding a peaceful way to negotiate with OPEC.

#7 Treadmills sap your will to live
Around the world hundreds of thousands of new years resolutions are broken because they revolve around using gym memberships. Lets face it, treadmills are boring, and moving heavy stuff
