Would the Gods ever allow time travel? A stupid question if I ever saw one. The only possible answer is....only if they are completely insane!
First off, until it happens, time travel is nothing more than a literary device for story tellers to use to amaze their audience. It's completely theoretical...at least until it happens.
I suppose it should be pointed out that time is a man made concept. Granted, it has a basis in the natural world around us. The sun comes rises and sets, then comes around and does it all again in a fashion that can be calculated and tracked. But, let's remember, that our concept of time has changed over the years as science has taken a hold on our societies.
Even a few hundred years ago, many cultures counted time by the number of Moons in a year (13). Again, this conception of time was also based on what man could discern of the world around him. I've never seen any proof to suggest that the concept of time was Divinely inspired at any point of human existence. In fact, the Bible itself is vague on time.
Don't get me wrong...it says, "God created the world in six days, and on the seventh, he rested." But, it does not say what the Gods consider a day. For all we know, a day to a God could be a billion years of human time. Immortality would tend to make one see time a lot differently, I would imagine.
But, to get back to the point. Time Travel. You will see a lot of people talking about Paradoxes when discussing time travel. And, I'll admit, there is some validation to the argument. But, then if the Gods are all powerful, and did allow time travel, then any paradox that might result could be brushed aside. So, the fact that a paradox might happen if time travel was undertaken, I think, can be ignored.
Which leaves us with the question, Would the Gods allow it? And my answer would be...I don't see why not! Fortunately, however, I don't think the Gods are that stupid.
Oh, I'll admit they've made some mistakes in the past. The creation of humans as a species pops into mind, rather readily, as the largest mistake that they could have possibly made. But, I'm sure they've figured out for themselves that turning even one human loose on the Space/time Continuum, would be an unmitigated disaster. The possibilities of the trouble he, or she, would cause, are staggering to the sane person.
So, while the Gods could certainly allow time travel, should they choose, I believe I'm safe in saying that the only way it will be possible, is if some human screws up an experiment while the Gods are busy tending to other matters. Let us hope that this is the case. I shudder to think of the consequences otherwise.
