It is better if parents can be involved in their children's homework but sometimes it can be a real struggle to accomplish that. I know this from personal experience. I have one child with whom being involved in their homework was very easy. She loves reading, and practising her writing and wants me to be a part of what she is doing. In contrast, my other child hated having to practise her words and reading and so trying to help her with her reading homework could be painful for both of us. Also trying to fit in the homework round extra-curricular activities and my working hours proved for me, last year, to be a source of both guilt and frustration - a recognition that I wasn't as involved as I could have been, or perhaps should have been. This year I have decided to be as involved as I can be but to ditch the guilt complex. Watch this space!
