As another writer has already said, most of us remember where we were and what we doing on that fateful day. The day of nine/eleven.
I'd just sat in the dentists chair at the surgery in the beautiful serene village of Somerton, England, ancient capital of Wessex. Of King Arthur and Merlin fame. I was told of the unfolding disaster in New York. I drove home quickly and saw the drama unfolding before my very eyes, live on BBC television.
What a day.
I reflected later on this awesome disaster. I heard GW Bush, when he was eventually found, talking about the cowardice of the perpetrators and thought what an idiot he was. Does a coward commit suicide in such a way for his cause?
I thought about the Irish Republican Movement, the IRA, that had terrorised the population of the UK for so many years and who might feel the back lash of this event. I thought Irish Americans might be shamed into stopping their funding of such a terrorist outfit in their cowardly way, yes cowardly, for they never knowingly committed suicide in pursuit of their cause, did they? The IRA had set off explosions here in the UK that had killed and maimed over many a year. I wondered if Americans might at last have some empathy with the ordinary and innocent terrorised citizens of my own country.
I thought of all the innocents that had been killed in New York by Muslims and in the United Kingdom by the IRA and of their grieving families.
My view is that you don't go to war with terrorists. You set out to inhibit them by determined covert means. And at some point steal yourself to negotiate peace.
I believe GE Bush has wasted enormous tax dollars and lives. Why did he cook up a war with the Bathists in Iraq when the terrorists were never there? He had to cheat and base his action on cooked up evidence about weapons of mass destruction that were never there.
Maybe you know why he did it?
I hope Americans don't let this issue fade from view.
