There is not one good reason to start a womens football league.
This has absolutely nothing to do with women not being athletic or rugged enough to play sports. My answer is not sexist at all! My answer is based solely on the business side of professional sports. I personally have absolutely nothing against female atheletes but as an avid sports fan I am not going to watch the WNBA finals over major college football. This is the problem.
I really am not trying to burst anybodys bubble here but lets look at all of the facts of why it will not work.
The WNBA is a dying league they only had 5,000 people at game one of the finals and they gave away 4,000 free tickets. The prospects for game 2 are even worse becuase they have been unable to GIVE AWAY the 4,000 free tickets. The only reason the WNBA hasnt collapsed already is because it is being feed money from the NBA to stay afloat.
The womens soccer lead wasnt what we would actually call a success story either. They tried to ride the high of the world cup success but wer not able to sustain the audience and were unable to stay afloat and eventually had to shut down.

The problem comes down to the fact that the majority of sports fans are men and starting female sports doesn' t change this dynamic at all and since sports is a year round thing with football leading into the heart of basketball season (college and Pro) leading up to March Madness and then the beginning of baseball season and then right back into the football training camps in August. There just isn't any time left in the sports fan calander to watch any new sporting events. And remember I didn't even mention hockey or nascar ( both have pretty big followings in parts of the U.S.)
In the end, if women can get local professional leagues started by targeting local niche markets and local advertisers I say go for it and great for them.

I don't think a National Women's Football League would last. Not because it wouldn't be good, but because the money would
