PayPal...Yes we, well most of us have an account and now this has come under threat with Phsing and fraudulent mails being sent out.
How many of you have received an e-mail with the contents something akin to...
Dear PayPal Customer,
This is your official notification from PayPal that the service(s) listed below
will be deactivated and deleted if not renewed immediately...blah...blah...bl ah
NEVER CLICK AND FIND OUT.....
This CONFIRMS your e-mail address is active
NEVER CLICK AND LOOK EVEN.....
Embedded items such as 'Tracker' and 'Spy-ware' are active
JUST IGNORE THAT MAIL.......Oh Yes.....I have a Spam Filter, I have Anti-Virus....It still wont protect you if you go take a look....and.....how did the mail get through in the first place? Unfortunately it does come from a bona fide ip Addy..untraceable, but still bona fide.
ANOTHER THING TO LOOK FOR.....it will say 'somewhere'....
Please do not reply to this email. This mail box is not monitored....etc etc....
THIS IS A GOOD REASON NOT TO REPLY, CLICK OR DO ANYTHING.....USE YOUR COMMON SENSE.
YOUR PayPal Account will not be deleted...following the instructions of IGNORING THESE MAILS will at least leave it intact and protect you from Identity Fraud. If there is a PROBLEM when you log into PayPal you will be advised. THEN......You can follow instructions on reactivation.
If PayPal NEED TO CONTACT YOU...They will in the following format..
>>
>
Dear (Your name)
Because it has expired, your credit card ending in * has been removed from your PayPal account. If this was the only credit card on your PayPal account, you will need to add a new card to continue sending instant PayPal payments.
To add a new credit card:
1. Log in to your PayPal account
2. Go to the Profile subtab
3. Click on the 'Credit Cards' link in the Financial Information column
4. Click 'Add'
5. Enter your credit card information
6. Click 'Save'
Thank you for using PayPal!
The PayPal Team
The ONE BIG THING TO NOTE....PayPal does not say 'Click here and follow instructions' It asks you to LOG INTO YOUR ACCOUNT....in other words there is no link between the e-mail sent and your actions which will take you to the Bona Fide Site in which you can action any changes that are necessary.
