The health benefits of sex

Not only is sex something we as humans crave and desire, nor is it only the way to reproduce; sex also has some great health benefits. Not to mention it can be incredibly fun and what you make it in your life can vary so you can get the most out of your sex life.Promiscuity vs. monogamy and our individual views aside, lets take a look at some aspects of sex that make it a healthy activity with benefits that go beyond the obvious.

First of all sex is a physical activity which means as such our bodies are in some kind of motion. This means that during sex we are burning calories, working muscles, and getting the blood flowing. Some benefits then of the physical aspect of sex include burning calories, getting one's heart rate up which is associated with lower cholesterol and blood pressure, and toning muscles.

Sex also works great as a stress reliever and even a pain reliever. During sex we release endorphins known as oxytocin that flood our brains with a feeling of goodness that is connected to offering relief to such things such as the common headache. So the excuse of having a headache to skip sex is no longer valid!

Emotionally and mentally having sex regularly can not only reduce stress and physical tensions, it can also lead to us feeling emotionally better. Having sex again releases oxytocin which improves our mood and makes us feel good. If you are feeling down or depressed, having some sex can help you feel better. However it is important to note that engaging in too much casual sex can actually cause one to become depressed due to social influences, relationships troubles (ie.- cheating), risk of stds, and so forth. So using sex just to boost mood is only usually a good idea with a steady partner or with someone with whom no other stresses will come into play.

All of these benefits combine during sex to leave your body feeling relaxed and content. In most cases during and after sex you'll feel better about yourself, forget about your worries, be improving your health, increasing your sexual appetite, and enjoying one of the best activities that we have as living, breathing beings.
