Most Americans can remember exactly what they were doing and where they were when the news of the twin towers being struck by hijacked airliners hit CNN and radio stations around the country. For myself, i was at work and had been for roughly three hours. I remember at first thinking that it was a bit my local radio station was running. The reality of it all set in when my place of work went into threatcon delta, it was real at that point. I can remember being shocked that someone could fly a commercial airliner into a building that large! I found myself shocked further when i discovered who and why hijacked the planes in the first place. How could they do this? How could we allow them to do it? How could our government allow over three thousand innocent Americans die like that?
I was proud of my president for roughly a week leading into the "War on Terror", even though he seemed to be in lala land and unresponsive for the first ten minutes after the towers fell. Bush immediately decided to send troops into Afghanistan to search out Osama Bin Laden. Here's where the story gets fuzzy and political intrigue comes into play. Initially, the American public was led to believe we were going to go in and get Osama and bring him to justice for taking down the towers and killing three thousand innocent Americans. There were days of unending television interruption by Mr. Bush as he addressed the country and told us that Bin Laden would be brought to justice. We were all on board for this hunt, at least i was.
Bush and his administration used America's call for blood to finish the job his father started. Americans were misdirected towards Iraq. Thousands upon thousands of troops invaded Iraq... again. While the capture and subsequent reckoning of Sadaam Husaine did a little bit to quell the American lust for revenge, it wasn't what we were over there to do. This is where the smoke and mirrors the government is so versed in using comes to light. The media, for all its faults, was useful in bringing the real agenda to Americans.
Conspiracy theories abound as to what the real intent of all these events are. I myself must admit that there are a ton of things that just don't fit together with everything else about this issue. Its important to mention here that the real mission was always to find Bin Laden and bring him to justice. Many, to include myself, believe the government was aware that the events of 9/11 were going to happen.
