Steroids should never be allowed in professional sports. The reason is damage to the people who watch the sport on a psychological basis and to the person playing the sport.
I could remember the few times while watching TV, Joe Namath had an Ovaltine Commercial. [This commercial was made during the year 1972 when the New York Jets and The Miami Dolphins were looking for the perfect NFL Season.]. In this commercial, Joe Namath challenged the youth of America to "get high on Ovaltine and say no to drugs".
Fast forward to the 21st Century with Steroids use as well as drug use abundant in all spheres of society. Even some of our Health Care Professionals have been caught in the act taking medications for patients for personal use. All of this has been related in part to the use of steroids in sports and use of drugs by personalities in the USA.
There was a time when East Germany [the former German Democratic Republic] would win medals in the Olympics of 1976, 1980, and 1988. East Germany was very impressive in its victories. When the Berlin Wall fell and Germany was reunited, many who had won medals confessed to having been forced steroids by the East German Sports Authorities. Their bodies were damaged by the use of steroids taking an emotional and physical toll. One of the Sports Personalities in East Germany confessed to being sterile after steroid use.
It is with these reasons that drugs including steroids should be separated from sports.
