Poetry: Falling out of love

by Penny B

LEFT WONDERING

Sorry I lost interest dear
now, how could that have happened?
Oh yeah, it might have been
while you were absent for so long
or maybe, it even could have been
when you said that you would call
and I waited by the telephone
but it failed to ring at all
it could have been those many times
awaiting promises that never came
believing you could never lie
but now it all seems so very lame

You ask me why I seem so aloof
and the passion's disappeared
was that when other things came up?
my importance lost, I feared
or was it all those many times
you said you'd be by tomorrow
and I waited with anticipation
that turned into growing sorrow
Could it have been when your sweet words
came less and less each day
or how you started pointing out
that I should be a certain way?

You wonder how the times have changed
and why I do not seem the same
well maybe it's that you took my love
turning it into a thoughtless game
you question why my love has died
with sadness in your eyes
wondering why I just don't care
does it come as any big surprise?
maybe it happened bit by bit
as I awaited on your plans
or could it be that you turned out
to be the same as any other man?

I watch the world go round,

    the way children play,

    how couples kiss,

and all I do is wish

I could be one of them.

    Oh how I wish
