or bomber or some hidden terrorist cell until after they've been "taken out," just be thankful it means that the people in charge of preventing such atrocities are doing their jobs.
Let's also not get so wrapped up in our own flag as to forget that terrorist incidents occur in other countries: Lebanon in 2006, London in 2005, Madrid in 2004, etc. Although what happened in New York and Washington were unthinkably horrible and ghastly, people all over the world are experiencing attempts at creating similar outcomes.
Unfortunately, diplomacy can only go so far, no matter who's running the country. It's not yet over, and so we must remain vigilant. As long as you don't go overboard, keeping security in mind cannot hurt, whether it's for your family, your city, or your country.
Also, here are a couple of concepts to keep in mind:
* No matter what your nationality, race, religion, or political leanings, there are others within your group who will believe differently than you. Not all Muslims think alike, not all Jews think alike, not all musicians think alike, not all redheads think alike, etc. Lumping all members of a group into one particular mind set is foolish and can be dangerous.
* A country's citizens and government will not always agree, as plenty of Americans are now quite aware. Communicate with your elected leaders; do your research and tell them how they might improve or eradicate various problems. After all, they're supposed to be serving us, not the other way around.
