Music for My Love.
It has been said, "Love is a many splendoured thing". And "All you need is love", "Love lifts us up where we belong..", "Love is a Battlefield", "Love Hurts" and the list goes on. There have been so many songs about love, loss, romance, passion and desire you could write a book on it. Hmmm, maybe my next project.
The human psyche need for love is expressed through music and lyrics more than any other medium. In fact, it is difficult to think of a song that does not have at least overtones about love, relationships or sex, if not directly.
I read a quote once from an anonymous romantic that I thought incredibly insightful - "Music is what feelings sound like". Wow! I wish I had said it.
We live for love, and when we don't have love we yearn for it, we dream about it, we write songs about it. And why not? Can there be a better feeling than being in love? To lose yourself in the loving embrace of your lover; to love someone and be loved back; to desire nothing more than be with that person, the one who you would do anything for, the one that gives your life a spiritual meaning.
For me music is one of my greatest passions. I have songs to party with my friends with that we can all sing along with after way too many drinks. Songs to play when I'm down that seem to connect with my own despair. It's as if I can hear the songwriter feeling my feelings, empathising with my pain as if they know exactly how I am feeling and written their song just for me. Songs I play when I want to sing (well I call it singing others might describe it as torture), songs for when I feel like dancing (its not a pretty site), songs for driving, songs for sleeping, songs for those romantic nights and songs that make me think about life.
Music invokes feelings and memories. Music is part of our lives, sometimes it is only subliminal, but it infiltrates so much of our life - it is everywhere. The music I listen to has time stamped those magical and memorable moments in my life that sometimes lay hidden until that old song I haven't heard in years comes on the radio, or I pull out the old vinyls for spin. Then all the memories come flooding back.
Which loving couple doesn't have an "our song"? Consider how much thought goes into choosing the song for the bridal waltz. Who can remember what song was playing when they met their soul mate? Love and music are a fabulous marriage of emotion and passion - they complement each other
