As far as I can see it-it certainally seems to all be the same thing-DOESN'T IT?
Only difference is people who are "usually" involved with day-trading probably have heftier bank accounts, and after all, the stock market is not gambling is it? So it's shrouded in being almost like a rich man's hang-up. When he gets really pissed off from losing his shirt he'll be sure to head down to Atlatic City to the Trump Taj Mahal for real gambling therapy so The "Donald" can keep in the game.
One the other side of the coin there are the obvious problem gamblers such as those old grannies smoking away at the slots, the poor chap mentioned above who just lost his Cadillac at the Trump Taj Mahal, or the highrollers in Vegas- and everything in between. We recognize certain activities as gambling but if you get right down to it life is a gamble, so there are no set rules- it's bascially just perception. And perception creates our own less than sometimes DELUSIONAL reality.
