It is not only possible it is evident almost everywhere you turn in our society that we have our priorities confused. For a good example, if you watch TV you'll know what I'm talking about, how many times did you hear Anna Nichole Smith's name during the time her son died and then she tragically died as well? What else was happening during that same time? I don't believe many people who get most of their news from TV know. Television now is only about profit, even on the evening news. Executives at media companies realized they could gain more listeners or viewers by continuing to push the whole epic side of the Anna Nichole Smith tragedy. We have now become consumers first in foremost in the eyes of the media and manufacturers of the United States and even the world. Psychology is studied and case studies carried out to see how much they can manipulate our wishes and even wills. These same manufacturers are busy turning out things that you don't need but that their media campaigns and slick packaging manipulate the want of whatever it is in the consumer.
I am not blaming the fact that our society's priorities are confused only because of the media and corporations. We have as a society allowed ourselves to become mindless consumers who are less aware, many times purposively, of what is happening politically, policy wise, and economically. Instead we stuff our faces full of advertisements and tightly scripted reality on TV and even the Internet. We live our lives isolated but surrounded by millions. There is no group definition of right and wrong anymore. Too many things have happened that has created suspicion and distrust in almost every group in our society, from the bottom of the economic level to the very top. Technology has taken our society even deeper into the mess we were in. Now we can share our confusion in viral video clips of me slamming my head into a wall.
Our priorities, as evidenced by the above examples, are all about self satisfaction. We are willfully unaware of the dangers and harms that we are creating or feeding by our consumerism. The family has fractured and now societal structures themselves are falling apart, as we find out that the people at the top are often more fragile and human than the lowest prisoner on earth.
