How to reduce employee turnover

When you're the 14th person to leave a department and there are only 7 employees' in this same department and two of these 7 employees are in management positions, there should be an arsenal of bells and whistles blaring throughout the company or organization that a serious problem exists. How long did I work in such conditions you may wonder? I was just one month shy of my four year anniversary.

Companies that operate with a revolving door policy fail as a whole because they lack the one component that success is built on, and quite frankly that's teamwork. When companies lack in teamwork it shows up loud and clear in their productivity reports and their lack of profits. After all, companies are in the business to make money, and unless they incorporate that policy into their very own people, then failure can be the only outcome of such policies.

More and more companies that have been around for substantial amounts of time are folding left and right. With the economy as it stands now, I'm sure that's partly to blame, but more and more of these same companies should be looked at with a fine tooth comb to really get an understanding of its ultimate demise.

What we have here is not so much a failure to communicate, but more so than that is the failure to succeed because accountability was inappropriately forced to trickle down to an overworked set of employees that were never valued until it came to the bottom line, and head honchos at the top will cut first from the bottom to minimize ever cutting from the top where accountability should always start.

Have you ever been in the supermarket and you're craving a juicy ripe tomato, and you spend whatever time it takes to pick just the right one? It smells delicious. It feels firm and yet soft enough to bite into it if that's you're intention. You purchase this tomato to slice on top of a wonderful green crisp salad and the moment you slice into it you're disappointed because the inside didn't match the outside?

Welcome to Corporate America. That's as clear a metaphor as any. Employee turnover can be avoided if companies valued the employees that keep the company up and running. Many employees have a dedicated, motivated, and positive outlook on the job they hold. From broom pushers and paper pushers to managers and CEO's and all that are in between, somewhere there is a happy medium and companies that invest in their workers reap the benefits.

Companies that continue to operate with blinders on and pass the blame and the buck will eventually get exactly what they deserve. With that said, these same companies that have such dismissive attitudes can only blame themselves for the workers they hire out of desperation verses the employee more qualified and more in demand, because for once the future employee puts themselves first and expect no less than that of the company they will work for.

And we wonder why American jobs are being outsourced to foreign countries and everything's made in China. It's the 21st Century and that should be unacceptable. Just what company do you work for today?
