The easiest way of deciding if Tottenham are capable of a top four finish is to look at which side from the top four are they ready to displace. In essence which of the top four teams are going to get less points than Tottenham come the end of the season.

Take arsenal. Many spurs fans believe this is the team that is going to make way for them and give them their rightful place and champions league football. Could it happen? You would have to say no. The fact is Arsenal are still a better team in practically every part of the pitch and because of their youth and relative inexperience are probably only going to get better over the course of the coming season. They have (mostly) better individuals and the most attack minded manager in the world. You would also have to look at Arsenals home record last year. They will definitely gain more points at their own ground than last season whilst doing roughly the same away from home. This will be more than enough to keep them above Tottenham.

Liverpool. If you look at last season they were great in defense, great in midfield but lacking imagination and creativity up front. In spite of this they were still a better side than Tottenham. Unfortunately for Tottenham they looked to have solved that problem and as such are now seen as much more realistic contenders for the title. They will finish above Tottenham.

Manchester united. Last years winners and this years favorites for the title. The best balance of attack and defense in the premiership. Player for player they are better than Tottenham. Put simply could you honestly see Tottenham getting more points than Manchester United this season?. Put even more simply would you risk any money on that outcome? (don't do it its futile!)

Last but not least Chelsea. Without doubt Chelsea are better than Tottenham. Better defense, better midfield and have a better striker in Drogba than their beloved Berbetov. Who will Tottenham beat that chelsea will not?. Who will chelsea loss against that tottenham will beat?. Nobody and no one are the answers to those two questions!

That Tottenham Football club are not seen as title contenders and every one of these four clubs are is the final nail in the coffin for Tottenham.

They can not muscle their way in to the top four because none of these four teams will let them.
