Deer Run Bed and Breakfast in the Florida Keys
Ready to drop off of the grid? Head down to the eco-friendly Deer Run Bed & Breakfast, a four room hideaway which is situated two miles off of the Overseas Highway in Big Pine Key in the Florida Keys. Jennifer DeMaria and her fianc Harry Appel bought Deer Run last spring and have been making renovations to make the inn easy on the environment.
At Deer Run, they use barrels to collect rain water, energy efficient appliances, fair trade and cruelty free products, compost, and they have plans to install a solar system and a cistern. Every morning, DeMaria cooks up a full organic vegan breakfast with a hot entre, fresh baked breads, smoothies and fresh fruit.
Deer Run is located directly on a natural beach facing the Atlantic Ocean next to a large tract of woods and is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of real life. Wander quietly through nature, as wildlife in and around the property include Key deer, shore birds, migratory song birds, tree frogs, a cockatoo, stingrays and baby nurse sharks.
They offer amenities such as an oceanside Jacuzzi, a saltwater pool with a waterfall, bicycles, kayaks, a canoe and a massage therapy room. If you want to step back into reality for a moment or two, Bahia Honda State park is just a few minutes away, Key West is 30 minutes south, and Marathon Key is 20 minutes north.
As an adults only inn, this is the place to get away by yourself or with your special someone.
Deer Run Bed and Breakfast is located at mile marker 33, 2 miles down Long Beach Drive. Ages 18-and up welcome. 305-872-2015. www.deerrunfloridabb.com
