Homosexuals, trans-gendered, lesbians, and even heterosexuals should all be allowed to marry whom they please. In the case of this country (USA), equality and freedom are our two most talked about beliefs. How can we justify equality if we shun our responsibly of understanding and civic responsibility to those others, simply because they refuse to conform to the 'religious' definition of the word 'marriage'?

Many would argue that because it is 'against gods will', or is 'spoken of in the bible', or whatever other christian argument you can think of, that it is a sin. To marry these people, would be to degrade the value of family, or the value of society. To these people, I ask: 'Why?'

When given the traditional answer, it all stems from the monotheistic belief that 'homosexuality' is wrong. When asked why it is wrong, the most common answer is that 'god says it is wrong', or 'that it is a sin of the flesh spoken of in the bible'. The problem I have with these understandings is that they are religious in nature.

Love, the feelings shared between individuals that prompts them to want to spend their lives together, is not something so transitive as to be sent down from a higher power. It is a personal, spiritual and equitable emotion shared between consenting adults. It is a bond, a tether, if you will, that holds those who share it close to each other. Love in the case of marriage is not platonic, it is not merely a friendship bound of close ties; it is more personal than that. It is almost spiritual in nature. However, as we are creatures of thought, we have to understand that it is NOT spiritual in nature. If we ascribe love to being an act of 'god', then we devalue our feelings for the other person. We take away the responsibly of our persona to feel these emotions, and instead ascribe them to a higher power who forces, or makes us, feel these things to the other.

How does that benefit? No, marriage is not a spiritual word. It merely is a word that means each person has taken a legal and governmental VOW to share the rest of their adult lives with the other person.

Opposition would state that marriage is spiritual in nature. It is a 'gift' from god to be wed to the person you love, they came to you by his design, or whatever else you can throw in there to justify the statement. The problem is this: One can love more than just one person. Those who marry for the first time, are in love, they share their love with the other person, and the eventually find out that
