lifetime of suffering and sin. Alternative, earth-based, religions do not practice in such ways. From rituals, which allow the whole family to participate, to worship, which thanks the goddess for everything for the light of day, to the food they eat, alternative based religions focus more on 'helping' family, than they do on helping the religion. As we can see, alternative religions do NOT breed familial breakdown.
The very last comment from the author was about 'personal' breakdown. In order to actually break down the personal values that one must have to be successful and happy in society, one must learn how to degrade themselves. If not this, than one must be looked down upon by general society as a degenerate, or at least a person of poor image. To me, being a practitioner of alternative religions, personal focus must come first. For example, in ritual work, if one does not have the standing with themselves to appreciate nature and the gods/goddesses, one cannot possibly commune with them. They cannot reach out to them, nor can they accept any truth that they may offer up. Without knowing yourself, it is impossible to know others. We have heard that quote before. Personal nature, for alternative religions, is the very first thing that is taught to anyone new to the lifestyle of a 'pagan'. How to accept your place within nature, your place within society, your place within the hearts and minds of others, and then finally, your place within the hearts and minds of the gods/goddesses, is the very first steps you must take in order to acclimate yourself to the lifestyle which you chose.
We hear, on a daily basis, how others have found 'god', or how they have found the 'goddess', or what not. These people indeed have found a personal truth within themselves which leads them to their own understanding of their environment; which, in turn, leads them to an understanding with society over their own personal choices. How can this cause personal breakdown? How can it cause familial breakdown? How, even, can this cause social breakdown?
The head-butting between monotheistic and alternative lifestyles stems from the tenants within the monotheistic religion. Those who 'do not' believe in 'almighty god', or jesus, or the holy trinity, or whatever else you wish to call it, must be converted. They must be changed, they must accept god to be saved, they must worship god or be sent to hell. We have all heard the tirade before. The problem, however, is that those who are
