they are unwanted but because they cause social, family and personal breakdown."
Let us break down their comment to fully understand their justification:
'The reason that there was so much resistance towards alternative religions'. Note the author used past-tense here. They are correct, there USED to be a major resistance to any other religion, especially in the United States, other than the traditional monotheistic belief system already in place. However, with the recognition of the Wiccan religion as a standard religion in the United States, this concept was thrown out the window. Once the Government stated that the religion is REAL and ACCEPTED, the hatred towards the worshipers began to fall. It is not to say, however, that those who practice the religion are not discriminated against. Many people lose their jobs, are harassed or forced to move once they publicly admit they are of the wiccan faith. The good news, however, is that the United States protects those who are in this type of predicament.
The next comment: 'because they are unwanted'. It is hard to see what the author is stating here. The term, unwanted, means that general society has no need, or does not want, or has no concern with, the desired religion. The problem with this comment, however, is that, on the average, general society was not aware of the wiccan or pagan religions in the United States until it was formally recognized by the Government. Once it was upheld as legal, those who worshiped in secret came out into the light, and did it in the open. The 'unwanted' word, however, leans itself into a more 'darker' meaning, which we will address here in a moment.
Next we see: 'cause social, family and personal breakdown'. This, perhaps, is the largest crux of the author's article. In order for a religion to cause 'social' breakdown, the religion must oppose social stature. In other words, the religion must pose a threat to what hold society together. In the United States, monotheistic religion does hold a huge sway on this society, however, alternative religions do as well. While it is to a lesser degree, the alternative religions do not, in any way, force others who believe in the monotheistic to change their beliefs. Neither do the alternative religions force the government to subvert its own rules. In all reality, the alternative religions 'changed' the general governmental rules to foster an air of protection for those who would be discriminated against. As the alternative religions do
