Mistakes to avoid when golfing with your kids

Golf is a gentleman's game. It is a sport that comes with a set of codes for participants to follow. The participants can be young or old, but they should be knowledgeable. When going on a family, golf outing, mistakes can be made while in the pursuit of having fun. Avoid these mistakes, so your family fun won't be interrupted.

1) Don't bring rowdy children on the golf course. If your children have extra adrenaline today, you should probably skip the greens. There are serious golfers out there perfecting their games. I'm not saying children lack the seriousness to play golf. Remember, Tiger Woods? However, most kids "act a fool" in public because they're kids. Consider other golfers' feelings and keep them home.

2) Don't admonish your children on the golf course. Don't treat a fun activity as a PGA tournament event. If your child misses a putt, avoid yelling at them in public. All that does is shatter their confidence. Children learn better through repetition and guidance, instead of negative reinforcement. Instead of yelling, show your children rules and techniques of the game. Embrace the game with them. Don't push the game on them.

3) Why not go try miniature golfing? Before taking on a regular, golf course, take your children out miniature golfing. This event is fun for everyone. There are miniature golf places in malls, arcades and other venues. Miniature golfing can be done at night. If miniature golfing isn't your thing, frisbee golf is a popular outdoor activity too. Actually, tossing frisbees will give your family better exercise than lugging around putting all day.

4) Be sure to ask your kids before going. Ask your children if golfing is what they want to do. It's courteous to include their feelings on an activity meant for you. You could always golf with your adult friends. A family, golfing trip may not be fun. Understand that you have make different arrangements. If your children decline, adhere to their sentiments.

Take these rules with you. No matter the activity, fun can be had by all.
