The Diagnosis of dyslexia:
Dyslexia can not be Diagnosed with a single test. Along with the teachers reviews and observations, then your doctor will look at both the child's medical history along with the parents medical history, and ask the child some questions. Reading tests and other types of assessments may also be done to help your doctor find out more about your child's abilities and skills. The tests will focus on your child's personality, style of learning, language and solving-problem skills, and IQ (intelligence quotient).
Dyslexia is diagnosed after your child has been cleared from any other problems that could cause him/her to struggle with reading, comprehending, retaining what they have learned, like a condition that affects cognitive development.
Although there are no cures for dyslexia, there are several ways to treat dyslexia, through tools used in education. Medications and counseling are not used to treat dyslexia. Federal law in the United States requires that schools have an Individualized Education Program (IEP) for children with dyslexia. You/your child's pediatrician, teachers, and other health professionals will work together in the development of this program. The program offers a intense, individualized education to retrain the way the mind processes sounds within words. The program is redone each year as your child's progresses.
