The weight gain with my pregnancy was immediate, then slow, then reversed, then fast.
I gained about 10 pounds in the first 2 months. After that I gained about a pound every 2 weeks for 2 months. Then I had a bit of morning (ha, morning noon and night) sickness and lost about 16 pounds. Around 7 months, my weight went up more than 35 pounds in 3 months!
However, I have a friend who was due 14 days after me and her weight gain was on a completely different schedule. She gained very steadily throughout her pregnancy despite morning sickness and cravings that alternated every couple of months.
My mother related to me that she gained at first and then lost weight at the end.
I guess you never really know what to expect! You can try to do the "right" thing by eating a steady, consistent diet and exercise regularly (I did both), or you can pig out and sit on the couch (that was Andrea, my friend). You just never can predict what your weight gain will be with each pregnancy!
