You would have to be just a casual sports fan to not side with Kobe on this one. Regardless of whether you like the guy or not, you have to admit he is in the top three, if not the best player in the league. Compared to him, you have to go a long way to find guys of his caliber in the league. The guy goes out there every night and is either going to come up big on the offensive or defensive end, if not both, as he is more than capable of doing.
That said, that doesn't mean there isn't talent in the Laker's locker room. Guys like Odom and Mihm, Cook, etc. etc. all have their abilities.
The things that the Lakers have lacked in the past few years are consistency. People, including Bryant, have missed time and that disrupts chemistry.
Kobe is still justified because he knows what kind of talent he needs around him to win a championship; he's won them before. He knows that the team he is on, is somewhere between unfulfilled potential and rebuilding stages. Though he is not in his mid-thirties yet, you have to remember that he has been in the league eleven years already. He has a lot of wear and tear on him. He has had his frustrations off the court. Bottom line, he knows that he only has so many years left where he will be able to produce at the level he is currently playing at and he knows that those years, those prime years of his career, could very likely go down the ... well, you know, ... if he doesn't have a change of scenery, either in the Lakers locker room or to a new one altogether.
More than sure the "old guy" trend in the East could be enough to lure him away eventually if the Lakers don't play their cards right...
