Why is the iPod so expensive? Why are all Apple products higher priced than comparatively powerful windows machines? They are more expensive because with Apple you are not just buying hardware, you are buying into a lifestyle, an ideal and a sense of style above substance.
Apple computers may own only 5% of the market but they own the best 5%. The most educated and and highest paid people use apple computers. Apple has become synonymous with the design industry, an industry full of trendy, young, well payed customers.
IPods have about a 85% market share in North America, because of their trendy design and all of the associations we have when we think of an iPod. When I think iPod, I don't think mp3 player. I think beautiful. I think trendy. I think status. The 500 dollars you give to Apple for your iPod buys you a lot more than an mp3 player, it buys you a lifestyle.
