The reason why people collect LP and 45 RPM records is the fact that the World's greatest artists, together with the World's greatest bands, recorded their timeless music on those recording mediums. Those artists, most of whom are dead, to date have never been equaled or exceeded in regard to their voices, emotion and natural talents. As long as their music is heard and enjoyed by the public, those truly great artists will be remembered. I certainly remember them, and my 1,000+ record collection is proof of that fact.
Those who truly love music are collectors of vinyl records, as well as collecting phonograph records made from other materials. Some recording companies did go out of business. As such, the records that they did sell to the public are the only examples of the work of those truly great artists. In other words, if you do not have the record of their song you simply cannot get the artist and the song from any other source. For a collector, such rare recordings are worth big money.
So too, the makers of recorded music create and sell CDs instead of records. They also more concerned with selling the work of living artists, rather than those who are long dead and sang music that today might be out of date.
Me, I spent many years learning how to play the violin. Yes, I love all kinds of real music, and I am actively seeking more of those LPs and 45s to add to my collection. I enjoy the music of our past a whole lot more than what I am hearing these days. Then again, what some people these days might believe is music really is no such thing, and that includes rap.
It is true that sooner or later those records will no longer be playable, but thanks to the PC and the software I purchased, I can play that music into my PC and make CDs whose content sounds as good, if not better than the records I own. The pops and the hisses are mostly filtered out of the recording, and the voices and the instruments are as clear and true as a live performance. In this way maybe the artists and their music will be remembered forever. You see, there is now a way to transfer those rare recordings to a more lasting playing medium. So too, that only increases my desire to find as many of those truly old but playable records to again bring to life the great music of our past.
It does my heart good to provide so much enjoyment to the older members of my family, who are shocked and delighted by the sound quality, together with all of the memories that come back from the past for them. Way back then, life was truly worth living.
