Yoga is proven to help gain control of yourself and to allow you to gain the confidence that you need in life. " IF you wish to challenge the world,first challenge yourself." Thanks for yoga even the most civilized man can rediscover his zest for life. What can you do to reach this? BREATHE!
Most of mankind do not breathe correctly. Breathing is the vital source of energy. Those who thoracic cage is well developed are able to deal with physical problems as they come: better than those who breathe badly. Not only do we breathe badly often the quality of air leaves much to be desired, and from this stems our lack of resistance to disease and loss of energy, our willingness to perform the slightest physical effort, out nervousness and irritability.
The amount of carbon dioxide in the systems of those who don't breathe correctly is astonishing. The cells only have one way to get rid of their waste products- through the blood with is purified by the lungs. Hopefully I have given you enough that you are rethinking about the action that we took for granted.
Yoga maintains that all good respiration begins with a complete exhalation, and that this is the perfect prerequisite of a correct and full inhalation, for the simple reason that a receptacle cannot be filled until it is emptied. Unless we first breathe out it is impossible to breathe in correctly.
Normal desperation therefore begins with a slow and calm exhalation carried out by relaxing the respiratory muscles. This chest is depressed by its own weight, expelling the air. This out breathe must be as silent as all the other actions involved with breathing, and because it is silent it must also be slow. At the end the abdominal muscles help the lungs to empty them to their fullest extent. The spongy tissue or the lungs does not allow everything to escape- there is always left over residue of impure air in the lungs. We must attempt to minimize this 'residue'.
Yoga combines all three separate forms of breathing. The method best studies when lying on your back, here is a brief description of the various phases;
1) Empty the lungs entirely as mentioned above.
2) Slowly lower the diaphragm allowing air to enter he lungs. When the abdomen swells filling the bottom of the lungs with air....
3)...expand the rids without staining them...
4)... allow the lungs to fill completely by rising the collar-bones.
Throughout this process the air should enter in c continuous flow, without gasping, NO noise must be made for it is essential to breathe silently. You must remember not to blow yourself up like a balloon or a tire. Breathe easily without straining and in time you will find yourself being able to handle everyday activities without the normal stress!
