Ovulation's effect on sexual arousal

My husband always wants to know what we, as women, talk about when we are together and out of earshot of the male of the species. I like to taunt him by saying that we talk about things like.. erm.. mens "size" experience, talents, etc. Of course this couldn't be further from the truth.

Usually we focus on ourselves, our daily lives, our emotions, the best and latest diet fad going around and who managed to get tickets to the hottest plays and concerts. The closest we get to what is going on in our bedrooms is the latest comforter that someone found on sale at the local linens outlet store.

But we do sometimes venture into the realm of female behaviour, if we are plied with enough grog and ale, and it doesn't hurt to have a hot stud puppy sitting nearby to stimulate the conversation.

One of our latest conversations revolved around ovulation. One of us (who from hereon hence will be known as Ophelia) remarked that at a certain time every month for 2-3 days she would literally attack and consume her husband...now consume was meant only in the most innocent of ways, meaning devour, molest etc. One of our other members turned to me with a knowing smile and we both uttered the word "OVULATING". Ophelia gaped at us from across the table "You mean that means I am ovulating? Wow I didn't know".

Of course, then we all started evaluating our own behaviours during the times that science claims that we are suppose to ovulate. It was determined that out of the 9 that were present at our table, 8 of us could lay claim to the fact that during that mid-cycle time when ovulation is occurring or about to occur, we all become a little more dominant, aroused, and eager. Pretty astounding findings I think!

This, I think it can be attributed to the need to procreate.

We are the only species on earth (except for perhaps the dolphin, which I was reading about not long ago) who has sex for fun. But sex, even for fun, has its basis in the need to continue the species, to procreate. So I think that primitively we still have some triggers or desires that will more then not lead to sex during a time when the female is most fertile. Survival of the species after all, is a basal instinct for all species on earth. Why exclude humans?

Now tell me what man can resist a woman coming on to him, after all..thus ensuring survival of the species!
