"My Buddy"

He came one day to us a puppy,
with a tortured soul.
It took hours to convince him,
to leave the shelter of the hole.

So skinny, the poor dog,
is starving both of food and of affection.
His eyes looked blank his stare was lost,
his spirit no direction.

We cleaned him up brought him home,
into our lives he came,
And to this day because of him,
our lives are not the same.

The first two weeks he was so good,
you couldn't ask for more.
Then it happened we come home,
found everything all on the floor.

This lasted but a short time,
and he became mans best friend.
He had some annoying habits,
like the whine that wouldn't end.

But all and all he had a knack,
for knowing when you're sad.
Just to have him lay his head against your lap,
somehow made you glad.

He never let us down,
in all the years that he's been here
Now that's he's old and blind,
his end is near I fear

I hope I can make your last days,
as comfortable as can be.
My friend I hope I'm brave,
when the time comes and you leave me,

To go onto your journey,
to seek out heaven's door.
Just please be good I'll miss you so,
and don't mess up God's floor.
