Networking for nonprofits

We often think of networking' as something that small business owners do as a way to help boost their business by obtaining more referrals and making more money. What many non-profits overlook is the power of networking and its impact that it can have. A non-profit becomes the most powerful when it is backed by the community that it serves. Networking does just this, it gets you in front local people of your community, and it gives your non-profit power and influence. This helps on any kind of issue that you are facing; whether you are having a big fundraiser and you're trying to find sponsors, if you are just looking to find a couple of extra volunteers, when an action item is put in the city council's agenda that pertains to your non-profit, or when you are looking to hire a extra couple of people. Here is a list of great networking organizations:

- Business Networking International - www.bni.com
- Local chamber of commerce for your town
- Toastmasters even though this is for public speaking, it's a great place to network
- Local rotary is always good
- Often times your town has an Area Business Association,' so do a Google search
- LeTip is a great one also. Very similar to BNI. www.letip.com

There are lots of great networking opportunities for non-profit organizations. This is an area that many non-profits overlook, yet it can be so powerful if you dedicate some time and effort to it.
