The SAT is a skewed test. In the first place, it does not test for knowledge, it estimates intelligence. It is based on standard IQ tests. The SAT is nothing but a long annoying list of analogies that are scored in a predetermined way that have no room for creative answers or original thought. To use one unrealistic test as the sole selection instrument for admission to college is both wrong and lazy. The SAT should be replaced with better indicators of a student's potential for success in college.

One of the best indicators of a student's aptitude for education are their grades in various classes. A report card could replace the SAT and the ACT and any other test. Grades take time to acquire. A student will be judged with grades in college. It's a no-brainer. Students who do better in school will do better in another school. This should be the starting point for admission to a college, not some contrived test.

Grades do not tell the whole story. A student should have to demonstrate some amount of knowledge or mastery of his chosen field of study. Perhaps they should go back to writing essays to gain admission to college. The essay would have to be written at a proctored session, so the student could not fake the piece of writing. Why they don't do this now is obvious. Somebody would have to read and evaluate all these essays. Still, if you want to evaluate how intelligent a person is, you should look at something they write. Perhaps if we took more time assessing students on a realistic level instead of just assigning them a number and letting a computer sort them out we would have a more fair and unbiased system of selecting students for college admission.
