Reflections: World War I and its relationship to World War II

It has been argued that without world war 1 , world war 2 could not have taken place. Fritz fischer, a German academic has further argued, that the inter war years were just a pause in a continuous conflict rather than the wars being two separate events.

The principal German war aims in 1914 were not greatly different from those of 1939 and Hitler expressed his intent of revoking the treaty of Versailles. Clearly, the Anschlus, the invasion of Poland, even the invasion of France can be seen as simply completing the work planned out in 1914. Even the attack on the Soviet Union can be seen as finishing a job started much earlier.

Where the Nazis started to Vere away from the plans of the first world war was the racial policies. This policy package was belonging only to the Nazis. It is clear that the policies that brought the Nazi state to its knees were the policies Hitler developed. Success was gained through the policies of the first world war.
