America's first canned meat products

While I was unaware that an actual Spam fan club exists (who on earth would have thought it?), ours was a Spam family during my childhood years. Looking back, I'm pretty sure that it was based on economics rather than cullinary taste.

My mother would not only serve it cold and sliced with mustard, but also in sandwiches. I liked it either way, with or without the bread. One of my favorites was when she put it all fried up on our dinner plates. I always had seconds!

Over the years I forgot all about Spam. None of my friends ate Spam, and I don't recall having ever served it to my kids or grandson. Truth be told, I was reminded of it here at Helium, in one of the write ups. My poor offspring! I have robbed them of the Spam experience. To take steps to introduce them to that delight now that they are grown may be a bit of a challenge, but to be a fair and loving parent I will give it a shot.

Being a spam fan is not something I boast about publicly as it is just asking for scorn from the general populice, but I will admit to you here and now, that I am a huge fried Spam fan!



If you haven't tried it already, I suggest you pick up a can next time you go to the store and make yourself this quick and easy treat.
