THE HOPELESS ROMANTIC
he loves her and she loves him
he believes it because she told him so,
he loves her and she lets him
and though she doesn't she won't let it show
because he's patient and forgiving
he'll listen to what she has to say,
he sets her above all women
and he shows it each and every day
she knows that he loves her,
so tell me, why would she care to leave?
in exchange for glances on her own terms
she can do little and yet know she'll recieve
and isn't love just so nice?
it's everything that it should be...
but as another year goes by
he's still wondering, 'hey, what about me?'
he waits for her caresses
for the kiss that never seems to come,
he'll prompt her every affection
for her passion seems so often undone
he is patient and understanding
with all his heart his love is true,
for he sees the very best in her
and forgives as only love can do
until the day she is so silent
and her smile is just a memory,
and it seems he can't do anything right
as his heart breaks endlessly
and so, with resignation
he ends what had not yet begun
she walks out without hesitation,
as he wonders what more he could have done
yet still he believes in love,
that it can be everything it should be...
people say he's a hopeless romantic;
people say he's a lot like me.
