Do You Know Your Doctor? Will He Kill You?
By Evette V. Green
Doctors we all need them and if fortunate to live long enough some will need them more often due to aging. Unfortunately going to the doctor is not what it used to be. Patients are no longer sick people they are a new Lamborghini or a luxurious vacation in Europe. Ideally, it is important to find out all you can about a person before you become intimately involved with the individual. Doctors are no different; you are still dealing with strangers. When choosing a doctor make sure you do a throughout background check first. After all, you are putting your life in their hands. I have learned this the hard way, recently losing my mother due to her doctor's negligence.
For the last nine years, I have had the honor to be my mother's full time caregiver. My mother Louise was incredibly beautiful and the strongest woman of faith I have ever known. She lived by these words, "I trust in the Lord." She was a sixty-nine year's old woman of many talents, who was brave, extremely generous, and had a great love for music. She never gave up; even in her sickness, she would dance to music playing on the radio proving to her that she would make it. Mother was my best friend and mentor, a great example of strength and courage. Her example of bravery permeated our hearts even in her final hour. Never would I have thought that she would die at the hands of her doctor whom she trusted with her life.
You should not only check the doctor's background but also check with other patients regarding the doctor you are planning to employ. As in the case of my mother, after taking her to the hospital due to a fever, chills, and diarrhea, the emergency room doctor informed us that removal of the catheter was required due to the fact it was infected with Cellulites. She was then hospitalized and released after three days by her nephrologist. The incompetent nephrologist left the infected catheter inside her using it for two more weeks in spite the emergency room doctor's diagnoses. As a result, two weeks later she was then re-hospitalized and diagnosed with Sepsis/Septicemia.
Questioning the doctor he coldly said, "oh well, I have known her for seven years now" and "You need to make up your mind if you are going to put her on Life Support or not". I still cannot get this out my mind for he
