Worst reasons to marry

"If I marry her, then my boss will think I have settled down and let me keep the job."

Not thirty days after we exchanged vows, I was given notice to resign. Here I was married to a woman I had never loved.

For any single benefit, marriage is the wrong idea. A mutual benefit may even be completely the wrong reason. Whether one of the two or both parties decide upon marriage as a means of satisfying some hidden or known agenda, he and/or she is making a big mistake.

Marriage is a lifelong commitment between two persons. It's not some partnership but a union of souls that should last a lifetime. If a couple considers only the good possibilities without accepting that life may go entirely a different direction, then they are setting themselves up for divorce.

My first marriage was supposed to benefit me by making me look like a stable person. I wasn't thinking of the lifetime commitment. I mean, sure, she was fun.

I look back on this now and hear the immaturity pour from every crack in that crock of reasoning! Oh, how I hurt that woman just 20 months after I married her.

There are other wrong reasons to marry, but I can speak from experience on this one. Trying to save a job is clearly the worst reason to get married.
