After breaking up with a guy I had dated for a year my mother was determined to set me up on a blind date to help me take my mind off of my broken heart. There was no reason not to trust my mom's taste; we were very close and she knew what kind of guys I liked. She told me about her hair dresser's son and how he was cute, funny, and charming. So I thought why not and agreed to meet this guy at Starbuck's after I got off work.
When I walked up to Starbuck's a guy called out my name. I turned and thought oh goodness, you've got to be kidding, this must be a mistake! He looked quite a bit older than me and looked...well like a complete nerd. But I thought that I would go ahead and give him a chance so we went in and started to talk.
It was honestly the most awkward moment in my entire life. We had nothing in common and the conversation wasn't necessarily flowing. There were moments of silence that were almost too much for me to bear and during those moments he wouldn't take his eyes off of me. I just knew he was picturing me naked and it made my skin crawl.
Out of desperation, I excused myself to the bathroom and called my roommate. I told her to call me in ten minutes and say she needed me home immediately because she had locked herself out of the house. Thank goodness I was able to pull it off.
I never talked to him again, but after our date I saw him in the mall twice (where I was working at the time.) It might have been a coincidence but it definitely freaked me out! I know now not to trust my mother's match-making habits anymore!
