Scarecrow Instructions
You will need:
one 2' long bamboo cane or stick
one 6' long bamboo cane or stick
a large roll of bubble wrap
some strong elastic bands
heavy duty string or twine
an old pillow case
old t-shirt to dress him in
old overshirt to dress him in
old trousers to dress him in
permanent marker pens for drawing the face
old hat to dress him in
two large cardboard tubes for legs (like the ones you get from the middle of carpet rolls)
one roll of packing tape
1. Use elastic bands to tie off the corners of a pillow case and to make a nose.
2. Stuff the head with bubble wrap and tie it to the top of a 6ft pole, with the pole inside it. Draw a face on the front.
3. Put a t-shirt inside an overshirt (and waistcoat if you are using one), and thread a 2ft cane through the arms.
4. Tie the arms of the t-shirt tightly to the cane with string.
5. Thread the shirts up the main pole towards the neck.
6. Use cable ties to attach the 2ft cane to the pole to support the shoulders.
7. Tie the bottom of the t-shirt tightly to the pole.
8. Put tape over the ends of two large cardboard tubes so nothing can fall down them.
9. Tie string around the bottom of each trouser leg. Push a cardboard tube into each leg, tape side up. If you don't have cardboard tubes, use more bubble wrap.
10. Thread the pole down one trouser leg.
11. Use bubble wrap to fill the top of the trousers.
12. Make braces from string. Tie them round the belt loops and over the 2ft cane.
13. Button up the shirt and tie up the wrists.
14. Stuff the t-shirt from the neck down with bubble wrap.
15. Add a hat, scarf, patches, straw coming out of wrists, straw hair etc.
Your scarecrow can stand outside in the summer, but will weather in the rain, wind and snow. You might like this look. If not, bring him in for the winter.
