The very word celebrity seems to imply that privacy is the very last thing that the "celeb" is striving for, but to be fair, what exactly did they do to become famous, to obtain that celebrity status? An actor or actress, whether of stage, screen, or film, naturally wants to be recognized for their work but they don't all court celebrity or seem to invite the paparazzi to follow their every move like some of their peers. The key to being a celebrity and keeping your privacy means making a deliberate effort to live your life in such a way that the average person on the street, while appreciating your work, is not going to avidly follow the tabloids for the latest news and pictures of you going about your life. Take Ben Affleck and his very different Jennifers. Ms.Lopez craved the spotlight and as long as he was associated with her, every move they made was chronicled by the press with pictures at eleven! For a long time, he chose that lifestyle in order to be with her and she chose that lifestyle for publicity, fame, fortune, or maybe just narcissism. Now, take a look at Jennifer Garner. This woman who had as much on her plate careerwise as Ms. Lopez as far as movies, television, etc. goes, but she chose not to make a big deal out of herself or who she was dating. The press did go after her when she started dating Mr. Affleck but his appeal for the press seemed to be a holdover from his earlier Bennifer entity than his relationship with Ms. Garner. They did more normal things like taking in ball games in his hometown whereas Ms. Lopez did things like filming music videos in scanty apparel and dragging him into appearing with her. The key to keeping your privacy is blending in with the crowd and doing more normal activities. The press don't seem to want to cover normal people doing normal things and taking in a ball game is a pretty normal thing. Also, a big difference seems to be a difference in morality. Even though Jennifer Garner became pregnant with their first child before their marriage, it was never, ever released to the press until after the vows were spoken and they were man and wife. Then, they proudly announced that they were expecting their first child together. Now, can you really see Jennifer Lopez keeping quiet in the press had she become pregnant with Ben's baby? No way, and she would have courted that publicity for whatever reason. The Affleck's seem to be just as sucessful and happy as the Anthony's but they don't put themselves out into our faces at parties and premiers and clubs just to make a mention in the tabloids. They seem to have found the secret to keeping their privacy. Now if we could just help poor Brangelina do the same thing! But, then that is another story entirely!
