Currently I teach English as a Second Language at PMU in Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia. The notion of one teaching method fits all fails to consider cultural and linguistic differences.
The Arabian language is read from right to left, which is not commonly considered in Western teaching techniques. The Arab language has far more words to express a single idea, this needs to be considered when presenting new concepts.
A teaching method has to be flexible when the use of classroom technology is limited, computer aided learning(cal). Sometimes basic teaching processes fit a classroom where even paper and pencils are not always available.
The classroom environment is a variable seldom considered in most teaching methodologies. Not every place in the world has an air conditioner or even a fan. This directly influences teaching time and student participation.
Adapt, Improvise, and Overcome. Be flexible.
