Childbirth & Labor

Memoirs: Birth stories

I was once told something very inspirational by my grandmother during the labor of my second child. Childbirth is one of the hardest things to experience, and one of the most painful, but the easiest to forget. This is one of the most truthful things I can say that I have ever heard in my life, and what a wonderful time to hear it.

I must say that I was not one of those women who got angry, or aggressive during labor. That is just not who I am, and I was determined to make this one of the most memorable times in my life. My first child was a planned cesarean section, due to her being in the breech position. So I was determined to go through completely natural childbirth with my second. Although I only got to go through the labor part (and you will find out why), I am still very happy to this day that I chose to make that decision.

Due to the fact that my first daughter was a planned cesarean section, my doctors were telling me that it might be a good idea to have a repeat c-section. I was determined to go through childbirth, so I decided that despite their recomendations, that I would have a VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean.

I went into steady full blown labor at about 10:30pm, 4 days before my due date. This was very exciting for me because I never got to experience labor before. Well as the contractions started getting more painful, I couldn't even start to time them. Well I didn't want to wake my husband up, I wanted him to sleep as long as possible. So I starting doing everything I could to find comfort. I took a warm bath, laid on the floor in several positions, and tried to think positively. about 3:30am I walked my 16 month old first born, to the house of a friend that was going to be looking after her during my stay at the hospital, down the street. The walk actually helped, and it was nice to spend those few minutes outside with my daughter before I was to go to the hospital. If finally woke my husband up around quarter to five, and told him that I had been having contractions all night. Well, he tried to get me to lay down and count my contractions before leaving. I then laid on the living room floor and told him that I was going to have the baby right there and not go to the hospital. Then he called a cab.

We went outside and waited. We got in the cab and proceed to tell the driver that I was in labor. While he was driving he was telling us how he wishes that he had chosen to take a cab while he wife was in labor because that way
