Yes, there is an easy way to lose weight. The magic word is 'substitute'.

We don't have to go without all or any of the foods we enjoy so much. It's the 'going without' that makes us fail over and over again.

Now that I've learned about substituting I'm on my way to having the fit and healthy body I never thought I could have. And it's all because of (and thanks to) my daughter.

My daughter is a vegetarian and because of this I have had to re-learn how to cook. All the roast dinners, stews, curries and other meals I grew up on, and was now raising my family on, had to be altered. Through my daughter I have learned how to cook without fat, how steamed or dry roasted vegetables are just as enjoyable, how to make stir fries, cook with rice and pasta and make low fat dressings and sauces. She has shown me how to make healthy cakes that taste absolutely delicious, how to read the labels when shopping and how to choose low fat foods when dining out. We buy low fat yogurt, cheese and milk, wholegrain bread rice and pasta, and eat heaps and heaps of vegetables.

I can honestly say that I am never hungry, that we eat the best of foods, and that I have not felt so good in years. I have lost weight and I just feel happy because I know that this time I'm doing it the right way. In the past I have joined many, many weight loss programs, lost weight and then put it (plus some) right back on again. The result is that my metabolism is very slow and the repair work I'm doing now will take some time.

The difference this time is that this is a way of life I can continue on with for the rest of my life. I still go out for dinner - I just order differently. I still have a sandwich for lunch - I just don't put butter on it (and No, you don't miss it - you just think you will!). I eat cake - because we make it ourselves and know exactly what's in it. We don't put sugar (or substitutes) in cake - we use dates, cherries, or other dried fruits.

As I see and feel the change in me I know now that I'll have a healthy future and be able to do much more with the rest of my life. I've even started exercising - just walking on a treadmill - and it feels fantastic. And it's all because of substitution. You don't have to go without - just make a substitution. Become educated about food, food values and food additives, and remember - everything in moderation! You will be successful!
